Regional Diversity Awareness Badge Camp 2025

As part of their Woodbadge journey, Kayleigh, Keisha, Zama, and Kayle took on the challenge of hosting a regional event for 100 senior scouts – with the bold dream of turning it into an annual tradition in KZN. Their vision? To create a space where scouts could explore the Diversity Awareness Challenge Badge and the SDG 5 Badge, tackling topics often left unspoken in scouting: diversity, acceptance, and respect in a proudly diverse South Africa.

The result was the Regional Diversity Awareness Camp, which drew 60 participants from scout groups and rover crews across the province. With an almost perfect 50/50 mix of senior scouts and rovers, the camp buzzed with conversations that brought together fresh perspectives, lived experiences, and unique ways of thinking.

Despite a bit of rain, the energy never faltered. Scouts and rovers threw themselves into the programme, laughing, learning, and opening up in an environment that felt safe and welcoming. Many walked away with new insights – whether it was a completely fresh point of view or a deeper understanding of someone else’s reality.

In the end, the camp was more than just a weekend away – it was a celebration of learning, sharing, and growing together. The Diversity Awareness Camp proved to be a powerful, fun-filled experience that gave KZN’s youth a voice, free of judgement, and a chance to embrace the true spirit of scouting.
