Message from Gary Pienaar, Chief Commissioner
Dear Scouting family,
Welcome to Gilwell Reunion, a time-honoured tradition that brings together leaders, volunteers, and friends from across our Movement to celebrate, reflect, and reconnect. It is certainly one of my personal highlights on the Scouting calendar, which I look forward to each year.
As we gather here in the spirit of fellowship, we join a global chorus of Scout Leaders who, from Gilwell Park in the UK to reunions in every corner of the world, come together to honour the legacy of leadership and learning that began over a century ago with Baden-Powell’s vision of Scouting.
Gilwell Reunion is more than just a gathering. It’s a celebration of the journey we’ve shared, the challenges we’ve overcome, the lives we’ve touched, and the values we uphold. It’s a time to recharge, to learn new skills, and to be inspired by the creativity and commitment of our fellow Scouters.
Let us take a moment to reflect on what brings us together – our promise to serve, our passion for adventure, and our belief in the power of youth. Whether you’re here for the first time or returning to rekindle old friendships, know that you are part of a global family united by purpose and heart.
It is also a reminder that the Wood Badge journey doesn’t end with beads around our necks. It continues in every training we attend, every conversation we have, and every challenge we embrace. Continuous learning in today’s world is not a luxury, it’s a necessity. It’s what keeps our Movement vibrant, relevant, and impactful. As Scouters, we are more than mentors and guides. We are lifelong learners. Whether it’s adapting to new technologies, understanding the changing needs of our youth, or deepening our own understanding of leadership and inclusion, our learning never stops.
May your Reunion be filled with laughter, learning, and lasting memories. Let’s celebrate our achievements, embrace new challenges, and continue building a better world – one Scout at a time.

My personal thanks to each one of you, for your dedication, your passion, and your willingness to learn. May this Gilwell Reunion reignite that spark and strengthen your resolve to be the best Scouter you can be … for the sake of the young people we serve and the future we are helping to shape.
Yours in Scouting,
Gary Pienaar, Chief Commissioner
