Springbok Camp Assessment Goes Regional

Springbok Award: Important Update
Message from Theo Rijs, Chair National Scout Programme

springbokSCOUTS South Africa is committed to maintaining the highest standards of excellence in the Springbok Awards – the pinnacle of Scouting achievement in our country.

To ensure that the Springbok Camp is consistently assessed to the required national standard across all Regions, this requirement will now be examined by the Regional Springbok Team of Examiners, rather than at Troop level.

Regional examiners are now guiding Scouts to the highest standard — helping them reach the peak of their Scouting journey and raising the Springbok standard across South Africa.

This change has been introduced to:

  • Guarantee a fair and uniform evaluation process across all Regions.
  • Provide Springbok Candidates with the benefit of assessment by experienced Springbok examiners.
  • Support Troop Scouters by ensuring that the high expectations of the Springbok Award are upheld nationally.

All Scouts currently working towards their Springbok Award should take note of this adjustment and plan their Springbok Camp in consultation with their RTC: Scout Programme and Regional Springbok Coordinator to ensure the correct arrangements are made.

This update takes effect as from 1 September 2025 and applies to all Springbok Candidates and new Springbok Award applications. For more information or guidance, please contact your RTC: Scout Programme or Regional Springbok Coordinator.
