Share hope through actions #MandelaDay

Today, #MandelaDay, we want to remind our Scouts to give 67 minutes of their time to helping community members in need. In doing so, we honour Nelson Mandela – Madiba, SA’s former president, humanitarian, and also the Patron of SCOUTS South Africa.

An important objective of Mandela Day is to translate his vision of a better world into actions, to inspire individuals to lend a helping hand and to empower communities everywhere.

This year, SCOUTS South Africa called on members to share some hope by either filling ‘Jars of Hope’ to give hungry families a warm meal, or to clean-up shared spaces in their communities to give young people a place to play and enjoy. So, let’s make it happen! Give 67 minutes of your time making ‘Jars of Hope’ or cleaning up your community!

As Scouts we are all Messengers of Peace who are committed to leaving this world a better place than how we found it. No matter how big or small we are, each of us has the power to make a difference. If we all make a difference together, we can change the world!

Did you know?

Nelson Mandela received the Africa Elephant, Africa’s highest Scouting Award. Upon receiving the award, he stated “The importance of a high moral code, which is at the foundation of the Scout Movement, cannot be stressed too highly.”  Today, over 33 000 young people are learning and living the Scout Promise and Law, and are incorporating the values therein in their daily lives.  Scouting in SA continues to enable skills development and the empowerment of ethical, caring, and contributing citizens.

Please remember to send photos and a short paragraph of what you did in honour of Madiba to Natasha (PR) at [email protected]!
