On the 14th of September 2019 over 5000 people will get together for a day of fun, competition and Scouting spirit at the 60th Annual Scout Rally in Pietermaritzburg.
The event that will start at 8h30 at the Linpark High School will give a platform to thousands of children to apply their leadership skills whilst showcasing their knowledge of environmental conservation, food gardening, first aid, HIV and AIDS prevention and knowledge of the Scout values – which have been driving the Scout programme for over 110 years.
The event will be attended by the South African Chief Scout Dr Brendon Hausberger, Deputy Chief Scout Mr Khonzaphi Mdaka, invited guests and over 5000 young people and their families.
SCOUTS South Africa’s programmes are implemented both in and outside of schools nationwide. Since 1959 an Annual Competition for Cubs and Scouts has been held in September for children and youth participating in the in-school KZN Scouting programmes. Over the past months Cubs and Scouts from various schools throughout the province have competed in district competitions. The winners will now come together and showcase their talents and knowledge whilst competing to be the best of the KZN!
The various skills and knowledge events include knowledge of environmental preservation, cooking a meal without using any utensils, first aid presentations, knowledge of HIV & AIDS Prevention, the values embedded in the Scout Promise and Law, and national symbols. A special emphasis will be placed on unity driven activities such as SCOUTS South Africa’s Food Security Project “Food for Life”.
SCOUTS South Africa (SSA) changes lives by providing youth with education, mentorship, values, opportunities, and safe places to be kids, so they can get out of poverty and build a better future for themselves and their families.
SSA was established in South Africa in 1908. It is a non-political non-profit organisation and operates in all SA provinces. SSA was one of the first organisations in South Africa to have members of all races participate in integrated activities in 1977, and opened its doors to girls in 2000. SSA is affiliated to the World Organisation of the Scout Movement (“WOSM”).
