1st Malvern Scout Group Adopt a Spot

The 1st Malvern Scout Group first adopted the River Plate, a stream running past the scout hall, in 2010. The group has focused its environmental work on the stream and has tackled the issues such as litter, water pollution and alien plants along the stream Clean ups, mainly on Saturday afternoons have a revealed a major improvement in litter and much of the alien plant life has been removed. The group has noticed that indigenous plants are now returning and the Common Bush Brown butterflies have returned.

conference on sustainability hosted by UKZN Edgewood two scout leaders were invited to do a presentation on Scouting and the Environment. Both Prean Naidoo (TS 1st Malvern) and Kyle Mills (TS 1st Wandsbeck) are students in the environmental field. Their presentation outlined the potential of the scout programme in addressing environmental issues and was very well received
