Following the resignation of Mr. Steve Camp as Regional Commissioner in the KZN Region, Adult Members of SCOUTS South Africa (SSA), based in the KZN Region, are invited to apply for the position of Regional Commissioner. This role is to be undertaken on a voluntary basis.
Based on the comments received in the regional meeting on the 23rd January 2016, some additional requirements were added to the base job description which are detailed below. We acknowledge the requirements that this role will place on the applicant, and from the regional feedback, I am confident that the successful applicant will enjoy the support of the Scouters in the region, as well as that of the excellent Regional Team in place.
In addition to making a personal application for the role any Member of SSA is also allowed to nominate any other Member for the role.
Applicants or Nominee’s should have:
- Basic Role Requirements
- experience of Scouting in the Region,
- a sound understanding of the current SSA Policies,
- good leadership and communication skills,
- access to transport,
- time and willingness to engage with the regional leadership and attend district meetings as much as reasonably possible
- conflict management skills and experience
- Management
- through the regional marketing representative driving marketing opportunities for Scouting in the Region. (This is such an important aspect that needs to be more focussed, driven and promoted in each District by the RC and their team.)
- ensure the management of the operational and administrative responsibilities of KZN HQ and the shop etc. (this could be done directly or through a suitably appointed deputy)
- ensure that the Adult Support Team are implementing an active recruiting drive and that it is in place within each District to grow Scouts, identify and support struggling Groups
- work with the Regional Financial Representative (Treasurer) to be aware of the regional financial status
- Profile Building
- actively identify potential sponsorship opportunities
- be an ambassador for good stewardship, i.e. – to personally write thank you letters/ phone calls to donors who have assisted KZN Scouts
- ensure KZN Scout regional assets are secure, insured and looked after
- Strategic Leadership
- hold a strategic Regional workshop at least once every year
- have a good understanding of the demographics of the region
- actively promote interaction and engagement between Groups of different demographics in the region
- be a champion for unity in the region
- incorporate interaction and peaceful engagement between the members of the province both inside the movement and outside.
Access to email and office facilities will be an advantage in the role.
