From the 12th to the 18th of July 2020 the William I. Koch International Sea Scout Cup Association will be hosting the 10th Biennial W.I. Koch International Sea Scout Cup. The sailing competition takes place at the Sea Star Base Galveston, Texas – USA.

The Koch Cup will feature a full week of sailing competition on sailboats crewed by two person teams. Sea Scouts from around the world are invited to participate in this prestigious regatta, where 20 USA teams and 20 international teams are set to go head to head.

The total cost of this event is $350.00 US which includes housing, food, boats and everything needed except for transportation to and from the event, personal clothing and comfort items. Flights, VISA costs, etc.. are not included and need to be covered by the participants themselves. For more information go to  https://seascoutcup.org/international-interest/.

All SCOUTS SA Sea Scouts that are keen to participate should email their expressions of interest to Alan Ford at alan.ford@scouts.org.za no later than 30 November 2019. Places are limited.

In the past Dr. William I. Koch personally provided for a limited number of partial scholarships for youth needing financial assistance to defer costs associated with attending this event. Youth participants needing financial assistance to attend this event may send an email to alan.ford@scouts.org.za who will then forward it to the Event Chairman on your behalf. There is no guarantee of financial aid and no offer of financial assistance is made to staff of this event.

In 2018 Devan Garland (17 years old) and Che-vonne Mare (19 years old), both members of the Florida Lake Sea Scout Group in Gauteng, participated in the competition and came home with a 3rd prize in the Kiwi Trophy category. Full story HERE.
